A child of passions for RUNNING and CHARITY

In early 2018, Jordan's 2-year old Son Carson was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer

That year, Jordan started running and discovered the St Jude Heroes team

In 2019, Jordan continued to run for charity, this time for Autism Speaks

The ideas for Legs Mis were born through these experiences

The name "Legs Mis" pays homage to Victor Hugo’s classic novel, Les Misérables. The story centers on Jean Valjean, who despite his immense sufferings becomes a beacon of hope to others. I think this is how our kids with special needs are: they are the strong ones, they just keep going, and they inspire us all. And this is also how we can be as charity athletes, physically persevering towards the finish line, and inspiring others along the way.

We identified three major gaps that need to be filled

Need #1:
Improved channels for charity fundraising, and more of them

Charities will always need fundraisers, and we have ideas to grow their impact

More community-driven, individual-focused fundraisers to capture new donors

Need #2:
An accessible, transparent platform for connecting fundraiser, donor, and charity networks

Charity athletes (and non-athletes) can share their message in more impactful ways

Share resources and mentoring/coaching for training, fundraising, and outreach efforts

Need #3:
More creative, charity-focused running campaigns or single events

Training blogs, live race reports, etc. that promote community outreach and awareness

Provide charity runners their own website (not just a single fundraiser event page)

Our solution is a new website platform that provides creative, impactful ways to connect athletes and advocates with charities, donors, and the communities they serve

Our Website
the main hub of our platform

Athlete and advocate blogs (“subsites” in the future)
Campaign and event pages (“subsites” in the future)
Race reports, “runcasts”, and other fun, fitness-related content

Our Community Forum
to facilitate dialogue
(community.LegsMis.com)

“Legs Mis” section for all official content, but public commentary
“Community” section for user-submitted content and commentary

We host CAMPAIGNS, created and supported by LEGS, which consist of one or more EVENTS.

CAMPAIGNS (for specific charities)

Pursuing our mission (awareness, community, fundraising, inspiration) for the benefit of one or more specific 501(c)3 charities

Example: St Jude 2020 (see right)

LEGS (Champions and Sponsors)

Champions lead campaigns and share their story

Sponsors support campaigns with funding and services

EVENTS (in-person and virtual)

Starting a 501(c)3

By JordanRunner | July 10, 2020 | 0 Comments

My goal for this post is to generally outline how we formed a 501(c)3 corporation as the legal entity for Legs Mis. I’m sharing this because I believe if you have an idea to start a nonprofit, you should just go for it. The process takes time and a little bit of money, but it is…

Runcast #1: Who, What, and Why of Legs Mis

By JordanRunner | June 21, 2020 | 0 Comments

This is an experiment. I think it went well enough, but I’ll reserve final judgement until others have seen it. A few weeks ago I randomly got the idea to record myself talking about my ideas for Legs Mis and how I got interested in it. While running. Sort of like a podcast married an…
